Chinese programmes

The CHOICE project made a constant effort in order to inform European researchers about opportunities to be involved in Chinese programmes for research and innovation. Here are the major Chinese national research programmes and funding schemes available for Europeans:

Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST)

863 programme

Outline: The National High-tech R&D Programme is one of the major Chinese national research programmes managed by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST). It supports pre-commercial high-tech projects especially in IT and biotechnology. Special funds are earmarked to facilitate the integration of the 863 programme with the International S&T Cooperation programme (see below for information on this programme), and support and encourage the implementation of international cooperative projects within the framework of the 863 programme.

Its objective is to support Chinese scientists in international research activities. ISTCP has its own budget while also being an umbrella scheme, integrating resources for international cooperation from major national S&T programmes such as “863” or “973” and from international funding sources. ISTCP is open to all Chinese entities who have pre-agreed with a foreign partner(s) on cooperation in a specific research topic. The calls for proposals indicate the priority areas agreed with certain country(ies)/region(s).
