EU-China thematic workshop on IoT – London – June 19, 2014

This 1st CHOICE workshop, focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT) topic, was organised under the aegis of the European Commission, with the support of the EU-China ICT FIRE FP7 project.

The EU-China FIRE project aims at strengthening cooperation in the Future Internet Research and Experiment (FIRE) and IoT is one important area of cooperation.

The EU-China Thematic Workshop on the Internet of Things took place on June 19, 2014 as part of the IoT Week organised on June 16-20, 2014 at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in the centre of London.

The objectives of this workshop was to:

  • Generate policy dialogues by facilitating the interaction between European and Chinese Officials
  • Promote European research excellence in IoT while focusing on European research of relevance to China in order to support policy dialogues
  • Discuss cooperation in FIRE (Experimental Platforms) between EU and China for IoT
  • Propose self-sustaining mechanisms for strengthening EU-China ICT research collaboration in the Internet of Things area

The panel discussions was structured around the following three main topics. Participants were invited to join on to discuss the potential for collaboration on the following areas:

    1. Research cooperation: Research topics such as ID, ARM
    2. Twinning operational cooperations: Test beds cooperation, twinning project, large Scale projects, Smart cities
    3. Application focus cooperation: Discussion on eHealth

This session aimed at identifying concrete funding mechanisms to support the emergence of possible short-term projects on EU-China research cooperation in IoT.

IoT Week 2014

The IoT Week originated in European IoT Research Cluster to become the pre-eminent event attracting industry and academia from around the world.

The 2014 edition hosted in London on June 16-20,2014, continued the journey: 
(i) bringing focus to the emerging opportunities; 
(ii) connecting the global business and research communities innovating at the boundaries of IoT; (iii) promoting international collaboration and addressing societal and market issues.
